Reading & Literacy Skills

“Our family is in crisis! We are just trying to take care of our basic needs. How is reading and literacy skills going to help me and my child?” Reading is POWER. Reading turns us into problem solvers who are SOLUTION DRIVEN. Reading will take us out of crisis and give us CONFIDENCE to overcome adversity. Reading TRANSFORMS us into self-directed learners. Reading gives us CHOICES. There is POWER in choice. Reading is FUN! Just READ.

Leadership Development

The Toastmasters Youth Development Program is an 8 week leadership and communications program.  Our goal is to help our children and youth learn how to express and present their ideas and their message confidently to audiences with the assurance their voices will be valued, affirmed, and heard.  Camp Summer Quest and the Toastmasters Youth Development Program specialize in grooming transformation leaders!

Financial Literacy

Sheena Qualles De Freece, owner of Kidzonomics ™, will teach our children and youth that there are five key components of financial literacy: earn, spend, save and invest, borrow, and protect.  Kidzonomics™ will lead and guide our Quest Kidz through fun interactive and engaging activities to help lay a solid foundation of these key concepts. We know that financial literacy is empowering, because it leads to financial freedom, wellness and self-sufficiency.

Enrichment Activities

Camp Summer Quest loves to indulge in enrichment activities to enhance our reading experiences.  Often, we bring our experiences to the story. “I have been there before! I’ve done that before or I remember when.”  Experiential Learning is the key to our success. The Mad Science Program taught our children about the Bernoulli’s Principle using flying toilet paper. Enrichment activities make information STICK!

Camp Summer Quest has a history of helping children and youth overcome the fear of failure, the fear of rejection, and the fear of success. Frustration and anger are diffused when we eliminate unnecessary stressors in a child's life. One common stressor for children and families is being a struggling reader. CSQ is here to help. CSQ is a non-profit interactive reading and enrichment summer program. We give hope by helping our children overcome the challenges of reading text and understanding what they read. When we teach our children how to decode a word and target specific reading comprehension skills they suddenly realize they are bright and that learning does not have to be a chore. We also take trips outside of our neighborhoods. Once our children see a broader world they have hope. Soon, they believe they can excel in school and in life. Since CSQ provides a myriad of interactive and engaging activities our children understand the value and purpose of education. They understand education goes beyond passing a high stakes exam and getting a good paying job. Through a loving, supportive and caring environment our campers learn to dream again and know we will provide a network of support to help bring their dreams to fruition. Camp Summer Quest is a community ally for our families living in challenging times. CSQ gives HOPE.
